Kitchen nooks, they're not just for breakfast anymore. Our friends and creators of the house renovation blog Chris Loves Julia agree. Remodeling their current alcove in their Idaho home meant designing a welcome gathering place for morning coffee, casual meals, quick snacks, craft projects and then some.

We're pleased that Chris Loves Julia partnered with us on this chapter of their room-by-room remodeling story. Windows provided courtesy of Pella helped make their breakfast nook transformation one of their most impressive before-and-after projects to date.

Replacing Outdated Windows with Energy Efficient Windows

It took more than 11 months to bring out the best in this breakfast nook. Slowly updating it with new floors, paint and furnishings was the easy part. The biggest change involved complete removal of its outdated and inefficient prairie-style windows, including the frames. To update the space, the homeowners decided on contemporary Pella Reserve wood windows. This custom-crafted line marries the natural beauty of wood with design versatility that matches any style and any vision.

Wood windows provide the homeowners with a beautiful, durable option for their kitchen nook. Pella Reserve windows have aluminum cladding on the exterior frame, which helps protect wood from the elements. The windows are also finished with a protective coating that resists the effects of moisture, decay and termite damage, offering the long-lasting durability that Chris and Julia's everyday lives demand.

Our experts installed a large picture window with a sleek, fixed design and side casement windows that open for maximum fresh air. Upgraded Low-E insulated glass helps block out the sun's damaging UV rays. This energy-efficient window feature helps protect the interior and keeps it cool even when the AC is off. Going with black windows was a bold move inside and out. It accentuates the windows' classic architectural design yet crisply underscores the modern aesthetic.

A Stunning Transformation with Contemporary Windows

The homeowners love the look of their renovated breakfast nook. Expansive, clean-lined windows keep the emphasis on natural light and enhance the space's airy, open feel. The nook is open to the kitchen and the living room, so the family enjoys easy access any time of day. Walking by those striking black windows tempts everyone to pause and enjoy a look outside, too. Chris and Julia's kitchen nook renovation perfectly illustrates how well-chosen windows can utterly transform a space. Replacing the dated prairie-style windows with modern, black windows brightened the nook, making it an inviting spot that flows seamlessly with the rest of their home. The new wood windows enhance both the aesthetics and functionality of the breakfast area. The large picture window and operable casements provide abundant natural light and ventilation, creating a welcoming atmosphere for family activities and gatherings.
