Built in 2000, this Waukee home sported windows that were over 20 years old. The homeowners were pleased with the two decades of performance, but felt it was time to update the look and feel of their home. They relied on Pella Windows and Doors of Central Iowa, located near Des Moines, to help with their project.
Black Windows and Doors Bring Bold Style
Replacing the traditional white windows and doors with black frames helped modernize the home. The existing wood windows were starting to look faded and distressed. Plus, the homeowners’ style had changed over the years and they now wished for a bolder and more contemporary aesthetic. The Pella representative recommended black patio doors and windows for striking contrast and visual interest to improve curb appeal. The new black windows also complement the black shutters and front door, tying the color scheme together in a way that looks sophisticated, timeless and intentional.
Not only did the color black make a significant difference to the home’s style, but the removal of grilles also helped refine the look. Grilles are ideal for traditional style homes where the look of divided light is desired. However, these homeowners wanted to move towards more modern windows and doors. The new products feature thin frames and unobstructed glass, making the windows more sleek and the glass more expansive.
Fiberglass Windows Add Strength and Durability
In addition to transforming the home’s style, the owners also hoped to improve the durability of their windows. Their Pella expert suggested Pella® Impervia® fiberglass windows as our proprietary fiberglass is known for being the strongest material for windows.9 With Iowa’s variable climate, the owners were pleased to hear that their new windows are designed to withstand extreme temperatures, water, wind and outside noises. They now rest easy knowing their maintenance-free fiberglass windows will never rot or corrode and are built to last.
French Doors Elevate Backyard Entrance
Replacing windows on the front of the house made all the difference to curb appeal, but it didn’t stop there. In the backyard, the homeowners decided to replace their old white patio door with a black Pella® Lifestyle Series wood hinged door, complementing the bold look of their new fiberglass windows. The French doors swing outward onto the patio, creating a grand entrance to the backyard that connects indoor and outdoor living.
