Situated on the riverbank of the Mississippi River in Memphis, Tennessee is Civitas, which translates to “community.” This residence is the first of its kind to become Zero Energy and Zero Carbon certified along with holding ILFI (International Living Future Institute) and LEED Platinum certifications. Archimania partnered with Pella of Memphis to create a net zero home, meaning that the residence generates as much energy as it uses annually, resulting in a net energy balance of zero.
Moisture-Resistant Frames Help Achieve Long-Lasting Durability
Our team recommended Pella Reserve — Contemporary picture, awning and casement wood windows, all featuring advanced protection and extruded aluminum cladding. These protective features are essential to ensure the durability of these wood windows, helping to eliminate performance issues and maintain their quality over time. The EnduraGuard® protection is added to the wooden frames in the factory to prevent the effects of moisture, decay and stains from mold and mildew. Additionally, EnduraClad®, our exclusive cladding, is used to resist chalking and fading, ensuring their longevity for years to come. This protective finish meets the performance requirements of AAMA 2604.
Energy-Efficient Glass Options Meet Challenges of High-Performance Requirements
The architects worked together with our team to select appropriate glass options that meet the home’s clean energy and no fossil fuel requirements. In order to do so, we compared dual- and triple-pane options, both with Low-E insulating glass, to improve energy savings and reduce the impact of the sun’s harmful UV rays.
To meet the net zero requirements, our team diligently installed all windows with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring they were properly sealed to reduce drafts and prevent heat transfer throughout the year. These highly efficient window selections help save energy costs and commit to sustainability.
Black Windows Complement Wooden Beams While Improving Insulation
The home’s integrated design uses mixed materials to create a sustainable masterpiece. To complement the interior and exterior material choices, our experts recommended black wood windows and patio doors for their added warmth. Also, wood acts as a natural insulator, which makes it the ideal choice since high insulation performance was of utmost importance. Our clients were extremely pleased with the product, resulting in a net zero home with high performing windows and patio doors.
