Built in 1950, this Roanoke, Virginia home is steeped in Cape Cod style. These types of homes are very popular in the East Coast area. They are typically small, rectangular and one-story tall with a prominent chimney and very little ornamentation. These are just some of the many characteristics the homeowners fell in love with when they first moved into the home. When it came time to replace the windows and front door, they hoped to preserve the original Cape Cod style they adore.
Window and Door Replacement Enhances Curb Appeal
The existing windows and front door were starting to look worn and dated. The homeowners knew that replacing these products would refresh the curb appeal of their home. While they wanted to select new windows and doors that would better meet the needs of their lifestyle, they didn’t want to drastically change the look of their home. The new double-hung windows further the traditional aesthetic of the house and the 3/4 light front door creates a more welcoming first impression. Overall, the new products elevate the exterior style of the home and function better for the people living there.
Double-Hung Windows with Grilles Preserve Cape Cod Charm
True to Cape Cod style, our team at Pella of North Carolina recommended bright white wood Pella Lifestyle Series double-hung windows. Wood windows allow for the most customization options compared to the other materials Pella offers. For instance, simulated-divided-light grilles are only available on wood windows, not fiberglass or vinyl. We suggested this grille style because it gives the appearance of divided-light windowpanes which are synonymous with Cape Cod style. The traditional window grilles are permanently bonded to the inside and outside of the glass on the top half of the windows. In combination with the double-hung window type and the exterior shutters, the new windows exude the East Coast charm these homeowners love. The double-hung windows, which replaced picture windows, offer convenient ventilation for the homeowners. They can now easily open their home to a fresh breeze during Virginia’s pleasant seasons.
Red Front Door Brightens First Impression
The vibrant entrance of this home is one of its signature features. The red front door adds personality and charisma to the brick home. The homeowners wanted to maintain their front door style, but allow more natural light into their entryway. With this in mind, we recommended they replace their existing 1/4 light front door with a 3/4 light one. The replacement door triples the glass size of the original. It makes the entryway more welcoming and brightens the interior foyer with natural light. While the exact front door style used for this project is no longer available, Pella offers similar alternatives. The new fiberglass front door features a rot-resistant composite frame that is durable and low maintenance no matter the weather Roanoke experiences.
Upon completion of this project, the homeowners were thrilled with the results. The white windows and eye-catching red door not only elevate the home's curb appeal but also improve functionality inside and capture the essence of classic Cape Cod design.
