In Oklahoma City's historic landscape lies Villa Teresa, a former convent with a legacy spanning over 80 years. Since its closure in 2012, the property remained dormant for many years until its transformation into spacious flats and tri-level townhomes. With a commitment to honoring the property's heritage while embracing modernity, the owners aimed to create residences that seamlessly integrate into the fabric of this neighborhood. The result is a stunning display of contemporary architecture that appeals to urban living and pays homage to Villa Teresa's past. Central to this project were the windows and doors, carefully selected to complement the sleek lines and modern aesthetic of the new residences.

Modern Windows and Doors Renew Historic Oklahoma City Grounds

The architect who worked on this project possessed a deep appreciation for Villa Teresa's heritage. He ensured his designs honored the rich history of the original structure. Drawing inspiration from the old buildings, the architect incorporated details such as gables and pitched roofs, mirroring the design details of the original convent. While the framework of the building honors its legacy, the architect selected windows and doors that would modernize the design. The black windows and doors add a contemporary feel with sleek lines and bold contrast. Horizontal grilles add further design interest to the façade.

Sliding Patio Doors Save Space in Tight Flats and Townhomes

The architect selected sliding patio doors because they complement the modern design with their sleek and minimalist appearance. More than aesthetics though, there were other reasons to choose sliding doors. Flats and townhomes often have limited space, making sliding patio doors an ideal choice due to their space-saving design. Unlike traditional hinged doors, sliding doors open horizontally along a track, requiring no additional floor space and maximizing usable living area. The sliding doors also create a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor areas, allowing residents to easily enjoy Oklahoma City’s beautiful weather and scenic surroundings.

Pella of Oklahoma Rises to Installation Challenge

Achieving these remarkable results was not without its challenges. Installing large sliding doors on the third story posed a significant logistical hurdle, particularly in the face of Oklahoma City's unpredictable winds and busy streets. The close proximity of the buildings to one another also made maneuvering big equipment, like a lift and basket, quite difficult. Fortunately, our expert team at Pella of Oklahoma was up to the challenge. We partnered with the builder to carefully coordinate installation, maneuvering machinery in a way that ensured safety and efficiency. This commercial project team ultimately succeeded in properly installing wood windows and patio doors, delivering high-quality products and keeping the project running on schedule.

As Villa Teresa embraces its new identity as modern residences, the legacy of its past continues to resonate, reminding residents of the rich history that defines their community. With wood windows and patio doors serving as both a nod to tradition and contemporary living, this project successfully revitalized the site’s historic grounds.
