This Philadelphia home’s entry was due for a facelift. The existing front door was old and damaged with paint peeling and wood beginning to rot. The homeowners wanted to improve the quality of their front door while updating the overall style of their entryway, so they decided to replace their existing door with a fiberglass front door.
Craftsman Front Door Updates Entryway Aesthetic
When it came time for the replacement project, the homeowners knew they wanted to carry over some of the stylistic elements of their existing door. The new craftsman style front door mirrors the look of the previous door by including glass with grilles, a dentil shelf and a transom window. The grilles on the front door glass create the authentic look of divided light, bringing architectural interest to the entrance of the home. The hallmark of a craftsman style front door is the dentil shelf below the glass which adds dimension and visual interest. While the homeowners wanted to maintain the look of wood, they opted to modernize their new front door by painting it black. Compared to the old white door, the new black front door creates a bold statement in contrast with the red brick of the home.
Energy-Efficient Glass Welcomes Natural Light into Home
The fiberglass front door with glass features Low-E insulating glass which helps protect flooring and furniture from fading. The updated transom window above the new front door also features energy-efficient glass.
Low-E glass helps reduce heat loss in the winter by reflecting heat back into the home and keep the interior cool in the summer by reflecting UV rays away from the home. The glass in the entry lets natural light flood the home without compromising energy performance.
Fiberglass Front Door Offers Long-Lasting Durability
By choosing a fiberglass front door, the homeowners enjoy the look of wood without the maintenance that typically comes along with it. The wood-grained, prefinished fiberglass brings design flexibility and craftsmanship to the entryway. The high-quality material is exceptionally durable, resisting rot, dents and warping. It will not absorb moisture, even in Philadelphia’s cold winters and hot summers, meaning upkeep is easy and minimal. This low-maintenance front door solution gives the homeowners peace of mind that they’ve selected a dependable and high-performing door that will last for years.
The homeowners were thrilled with the outcome of this replacement project. The new craftsman style front door exceeds their expectations for an updated entryway by enhancing the style, energy efficiency and durability of their home.
