Located in the upscale Magnolia neighborhood within West Seattle, this historic home sits on a peninsula that extends into Puget Sound. The stunning neighborhood enjoys numerous parks, shops and sweeping water views. This Seattle homeowner was looking for a durable and energy-efficient window to match the look of her old dining room window. Unfortunately, her children had broken the single-pane dining room window and two others just by leaning on them. She needed something durable that could hold up to their everyday lifestyle.
Tempered Glass Window Improves Safety and Durability
To ensure the window can stand up to the homeowner’s children, we recommended the homeowner upgrade the window with tempered glass. Often called safety glass, tempered glass is heat treated to increase its strength. It is approximately four times stronger than regular annealed glass and looks just like regular glass. This kid-proof glass gives the homeowner peace of mind when her children bang into the windows that the glass will not break and cause any harm.
Replacement Window Matches Historic Aesthetic
While increasing durability and safety was the main reason for this historic window replacement, maintaining the classic charm of the home was just as important. The homeowner chose wood windows with traditional grilles to create the authentic look they desired. One of the benefits of replacing old windows is modern energy efficiency with large panes of glass and applied grilles, rather than small individual panes. This helps increase the year-round comfort in this dining room and lower utility costs.
Overall, this Magnolia homeowner loves the finished product. The new window honors the home’s history while keeping her family safe and comfortable.
